One of the important functions of the indwelling Holy Spirit is to equip Christians with spiritual gifts, enabling them to become effective servants of Jesus Christ. These gifts differ from one believer to another, according to the ministry to which each has been called.
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal” ( 1 Corinthians 12:7) . Paul saw the need to write to the churches about spiritual gifts because he did not want them to be ignorant of its presence in them.
These gifts are innumerable, and not all of them are specifically recorded in the Bible. Some are public and readily visible, while others are less noticeable and often go unrecognised. Together, these gifts enable the body of Christ to function effectively.
The Holy Spirit alone is the source of all spiritual gifts. He distributes them freely to every believer according to His own will for the edification of the Church. They are not bestowed on the basis of a person's intelligence, abilities, or spirituality.
