Just as Jesus told the disciples that He would send them another Helper to be with them forever, and it took them time to understand all that this would involve, so it also takes us time to discover the wonderful benefits of the Spirit's presence in our lives.
The Holy Spirit performs many functions. In this study, we will focus on the function described in John 14:26.
" But the comforter which is the Holy Ghost, who the father shall send in my name shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. "
Jesus calls it the spirit of TRUTH (John 15:26). This is because apart from Jesus being the truth, no Truth exist in this world. We need the Holy Ghost therefore to enlighten us about this truth, which is Jesus so we can clearly and boldly witness about Him- today and eternity. This will deposit a buoyancy of hope into the soul of the Christian as this is done by the revelation of the Holy Spirit through studying of the Scriptures rather than through one's emotions, intelligence and wisdom.This process of learning obedience through the study of the Scriptures, while being led by the Holy Spirit is called Filling of the Holy Spirit ( FHS).
Through this process, the interpretation of the Scriptures becomes clear under the guidance of the Holy Spirit during study. This equips and empowers the believer in sound biblical doctrine, resulting in spiritual growth and liberty. It also sets the believer free from foreign, false, and legalistic doctrines that hinder the full freedom to worship and serve God as He intended. Note that Holy Spirit has all its teachings in the scriptures alone and not through one's dreams and greatness of faith.
As the Holy Spirit teaches and enlightens us about the Scriptures through consistent study, faith is deposited into our heart. This, in turn, strengthens us in both our ministry and our daily lives, as the Holy Spirit brings the Word to our remembrance in times our uncertainty, adversity, and trials within our lives.
