Some diseases rarely show symptoms, and before one realises it, sudden destruction may occur. That is why regular medical check-ups are essential. The same is true of our spiritual lives.
Without constant check-ups in the Scriptures, one may wait for symptoms of carnality before taking action. Before one realises it, one may be overtaken unexpectedly, having become insensitive to one's spiritual condition. This may result in the loss of a successful spiritual life, though not the loss of salvation.
Once, I attended a conference at the refugee camp in Kasoa. To my surprise, I saw an eagle that could not fly. I was astonished. I believe this was because it had not regularly used its wings from birth.
There are many saints who cannot fly like the eagle because their dependence is on mission tenets, the church doctrine, and religious leaders rather than on the Scriptures. Although they may appear spiritually fit and well, they are spiritually insensitive, lacking love, sound doctrine, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. As a result, they become corrupt and slowly die spiritually.
How are you making your spirituality count?
"But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;"
( 2 Timothy 3:14).
